Zillow Core Values handbook
-
Zillow was entering a new chapter: a new CEO, the company’s 20th anniversary, and a refreshed set of six core values. I designed a 32-page handbook to introduce the new values to Zillow’s 7,000 employees and create a tangible resource for new hires as part of their onboarding experience.
I owned the project from concept through production, working across Communications, People and Brand to develop a direction that felt distinctly Zillow while bringing the new values to life. Each value was paired with a color from Zillow’s existing palette and a sourced pattern that became part of a broader visual system, later appearing on swag and other applications beyond the handbook.
The original creative direction called for custom illustrations for each value. I developed the concepts and art-directed an illustrator alongside our Brand team, refining each illustration until we had a cohesive, on-brand set. When that direction changed late in the process, I pivoted to a combination of employee photography and stock imagery, looking for images that could communicate each value. I ultimately delivered both print-ready and digital versions using Zillow’s existing brand guidelines.

The handbook introduced Zillow's refreshed values to employees and became part of the welcome experience for new hires. The visual system extended beyond the publication, with the patterns and color associations adapted for additional brand applications, including employee swag.
The project brought a highly visible internal initiative to life while creating a flexible visual language the company could use beyond the original deliverable.
