Zillow press release graphics
Press release graphics have a different job than marketing graphics. They need to catch a reporter’s eye while still feeling neutral and editorial enough for media outlets to use in their coverage. The best ones do all three without feeling like an advertisement.
At Zillow, I regularly attended PR team meetings to understand what stories were coming up, then worked directly with my colleagues on their draft releases. I would read the story, identify the strongest visual hook and pitch a concept—often getting my first idea approved. From there, I worked with the release author through design, copy and final approval.
The work supported a wide range of stories, from housing and economic data to product launches, research, executive announcements and company news. I created data visualizations, charts, maps and product mockups, always considering the story’s intent and the interests of the outlet’s audience. Within Zillow’s brand guidelines, I intentionally kept the graphics relatively unbranded so they could feel at home in an editorial environment and be easily incorporated into coverage.
My graphics were featured in coverage by outlets including Fast Company, GeekWire, NPR, CNN, Forbes, CBS and other major outlets, extending Zillow’s visual presence and messaging across national media.
